Fog anyone.
This morning as I drove through fog that was quite thick in spots I thought fog driving tips might be a good idea,
- Drive with your headlights lights on low beam. High beams will only be reflected back off the fog and actually reduce visibility even more.
- Slow down -- and watch your speedometer. Fog can create an illusion of slow motion when you may actually be speeding.
- Listen for traffic you can't see. Crack open your window, to hear better.
- Use your wipers and the defroster as necessary for maximum visibility.
- Use the white line on the right edge of the road or painted road markings as a guide.
- Be patient. Do not attempt to pass.

Good tips. GPS is also helpful because it shows you turns coming up etc.,

Great advice.
I would like to add.... turn off your fog lights when visibility is no longer severely restricted. Rear fog lights can dazzle other drivers, and they also look like brake lights which can lead to problems.
It's a pet hate (in case you hadn't guessed).
OK - deep breaths Philip....

Hi Scott, we hit some fog patches on the freeway drive down to LA.
I live in CA and we have fog all the time.
The other thing is, refrain from freaking out.
sigh.
When on surface streets, you MUST go more slowly because you could encounter a stop sign etc. So slowing down a LOT makes sense.
However, when on the freeway, HELLO, it's still the freeway. You will see the tail lights of cars ahead of you. Slowing down 10-20 miles below the speed limit makes sense. Driving 35 in a 70 zone is unsafe in the other direction.
And leave MORE SPACE between cars, because the driver in front of the car in front of you could suddenly panic with the fog etc. Just leave more buffer room.
Glad to hear you made it home safe and sound from your visit to NorCal.
All the best,
